Location: Knappenrode, Germany
Year: 2016
Planned realisation time: 2018
Area: 2500m2
Investor: Saxon Museum of Industry
Scope of works: architectural concept, design of exhibition areas.
Only a few places in the world are known for such a turbulent history as Europe. Due to wars and social and economic change, Lusatia, once a calm, green area, was perforated in the 19th and 20th centuries by large lignite mining. It is there, in a German town called Knappenrode, that an unused and revitalised factory of coal briquette is located. With the use of light, glass and modern technologies, an exceptional exhibition is created in the industrial interiors telling the stories of this region and the people who have lived in Lusatia for hundreds of years now. Using animation, we bring the once silent machines to life and draw a bold vision of the future of the region powered by renewable energy sources.
